VERSION 1
Created on: Sep 23, 2008 9:19 AM by Ben Mehling - Last Modified:  Oct 2, 2008 6:20 PM by Ben Mehling

The Medsphere OpenVista® Clinical Information System (CIS) is a suite of applications and modules enabling the safe and efficient delivery of patient care. The CIS electronic medical record (EMR) enables the entire healthcare team to access and update pertinent patient information any time and any where throughout the healthcare enterprise. Fully integrated with all OpenVista products, CIS automates workflow processes and brings clinical information traditionally partitioned in paper records to a single point of access.

  • Improved Patient Care. Decreased variance and automated care delivery processes enhance workflow, creating more time with patients and limiting error-causing scenarios.
  • Enhanced Communications. Electronic documentation and information exchange allow more efficient communication and create an audit of all clinical activity at the point of care, and
enables internationalization and language translation (For example; Spanish, French, German, etc…).
  • Increased Efficiency. A single repository for clinical information based on an integrated architecture provides real-time access to information, eliminating redundant documentation and many manual tasks.
  • Quality Improvement. Technological support for best-practices enhances the ability of facilities to comply with performance measures and other health-promotion and disease‑prevention guidelines.
  • Reduced Costs. Facilities save time and money by curtailing medical errors, eliminating duplicate tests and procedures, automating clinical processes, and limiting the use of paper.

The OpenVista Clinical Information System features the following modules:

Clinical Alerts and Reminders

  • Alerts providers of clinical findings, including abnormal/critical laboratory tests, completed consults, expiring orders, unsigned charts, and other communications that require provider attention. Providers can sign orders, remove viewed items, or defer action until later.
  • Provides comprehensive health maintenance reminders to assist with disease management protocols
  • Provides tools for the creation of point-and-click reminder dialogs that conform to clinical guidelines
  • Provides robust reporting on performance measures

Consults Tracking

  • Enables users to track consults, enter new consults, enter results, and generate reports for existing consult requests
  • Allows consults to be created as Quick Orders, streamlining the ordering process
  • Produces a permanent record of requests and resolutions for the patient medical record
  • Allows all relevant parties to see consult reports in the context of patient integrated notes
  • Allows use of Clinical Documentation templates and boilerplate templates to report findings
  • Provides clinicians and patients with access to consult data

  • Includes a Patient Summary designed to provide an overview, or dashboard, of all pertinent clinical patient information: problems, allergies, medications, lab results, vitals, and clinical reminders
  • Permits import of documents using different data capture methods: transcription, direct entry, scanning, or upload of ASCII-formatted documents such as surgical records/notes
  • Allows users to enter, edit, and sign documents; add addenda; and browse documents
  • Includes robust templating utilities for creating point-and-click, component-based, standardized notes that are easy to assemble and use
  • Embedded spell checking with custom dictionary functionality and Internationalization/Localization support.

Computerized Provider Order Entry (CPOE)

  • Provides an ordering process that improves patient safety by incorporating informative clinical alerts: out‑of-range lab values, duplicate orders, maximum order frequency, allergies, potential negative drug interactions, other potential conflicts
  • Offers patient safety and time-saving functions such as quick orders and disease or service-specific order sets
  • Provides workflow functions such as the ability to place preadmission, discharge, and transfer orders for a future date and time
  • Allows electronic signature for multiple simultaneous orders
