How to Contribute

Medsphere welcomes your participation in OpenVista projects. There are many ways to contribute to an OpenVista project, not limited to software design, creation, and testing. We hope interested subject matter experts, clinicians, and observers, as well as software developers, will engage. If you have an idea on how to improve quality, enhance functionality, or accelerate innovation in OpenVista, we encourage your input.

You can start by joining in the conversation -- there are email lists to discuss the specific source code releases found on Medsphere.org. We would also recommend interested parties join the Hardhats (the original) VistA developers list.

If you're interested in contributing software to OpenVista projects, please start a thread on the appropriate email list. You may find like-minded contributors interested in helping with your effort and/or already working on a similar project. The key is communication.

The Medsphere engineering team intends to review contributions on a weekly basis and may decide to incorporate your contribution into the next Open Source release. All contributions will be accepted under the terms of the Medsphere Contributors Agreement. Please review this agreement before contributing. Also, please remember to provide your preferred email address so that we can share our feedback with you.

The engineering team is aware that these projects lack the defect tracking and source repositories that an active software development project requires. Over the coming months we will enhance medsphere.org to provide additional capabilities to the Open Source healthcare community. We will be adding OpenVista source repositories, defect trackers, forums, and more ways to collaborate on the OpenVista architecture.

We plan to add additional Open Source healthcare content, including a detailed survey of Open Source healthcare projects and products around the world, both VistA and non-VistA based.
