Can a Listing of Formulary Drugs be produced?

On a yearly basis, Will is asked to produce a listing of formulary drugs for P&T comittee approval.

He would also like to be able to format the list as to VA classification with the Orderable item and its linked generic drugs for attachment to "Tools" in CPRS.

AN100 -> Antibiotics: Piperacillin/tazobactam-> piperacillin 4 gm/Tazobactam 0.5gm

                                                                      piperacillin 3 gm/Tazobactam 0.375gm

                                                                      piperacillin 2gm/Tazobactam 0.25gm

What about using AHFS class, instead of VA class as the therapeutic grouping atttribute...or should that be configurable?

RxNorm classification could be another option thinking down the road.

There is a Formulary information report that can be run.  It is selectable within the Pharmacy Data Management option.  This report lists all items within drug file #50 and to which package(s) they are marked.  You likely only want to report those items that are marked for the Unit Dose and IV packages.  To accomplish that, you would probably need to run a fileman report.

Currently the only way to produce this kind of report is as Roy stated, running a fileman report to only include those items in your formularly that are marked with either a U for Unit Dose or I for IV.  When doing the print fields I recommend utilizing the VA Drug Class Code which will provide you with both the VA Classification as well as the description that you are looking for.  However, those are grouped together as one item when it gets imported into an EXCEL sheet which you could still sort on, however if you want just the numerical code you would need to also include the VA Classification by itself.  Here is a brief look at this output:

Generic NameVA ClassificationVA Drug Class Code
A & D OINT 60GM                         DE350 DE350 EMOLLIENTS
ACARBOSE 50MG TAB UD                    HS502 HS502 ORAL HYPOGLYCEMIC AGENTS,ORAL
ACEBUTOLOL HCL 200MG CAP                CV100 CV100 BETA BLOCKERS/RELATED
ACETAMINOPHEN 100MG/ML DROPS 15ML       CN103 CN103 NON-OPIOID ANALGESICS
