Just in case this matters to anyone....
I already run several test machines in VirtualBox so I thought I'd give it a try instead of loading VMWare player.
I set the machine up with the standard settings for Linux -> Ubuntu and imported the vmdk file with VirtualBox's "Virtual Media Manager". Booted without incident and was also able to install the Guest Additions and fully utilize the pointer integration, network enhancements, full screen + auto resolution switching, etc.
At least at this point, I have seen no issues with the appliance running in VirtualBox running on: Ubuntu 9.04, Windows XP (minimal - just booted and connected with CIS), Mac OS 10.5 (minimal - just booted and connected with CIS).
Cheers!
Thanks for the report, John!
It also came up for me without incident on Windows XP Pro SP3 with VirtualBox 3.1.2, following John's instructions.
